Floyd James Barringer passed away on September 14, 2016 at Sparks Hospital in the Peachtree Hospice Unit following a brief illness. He was 91 years of age. His daughter was in attendance at the time of his passing. Floyd was born in the town of Chambers, Oklahoma in Pittsburg County on September 3, 1925. He was one of eight children born to James Payton Barringer and Etta Hazel Barringer.

Floyd James Barringer passed away on September 14, 2016 at Sparks Hospital in the Peachtree Hospice Unit following a brief illness. He was 91 years of age. His daughter was in attendance at the time of his passing. Floyd was born in the town of Chambers, Oklahoma in Pittsburg County on September 3, 1925. He was one of eight children born to James Payton Barringer and Etta Hazel Barringer.

Floyd served in the Navy from 1944 to 1946 during World War II. Following his discharge from serving in the Navy, he began working in the cattle business, which he truly loved. He initially worked at the Oklahoma City Stockyards, buying cattle for the Armor Meatpacking Company. He later moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas and worked as a cattle buyer for the Johnson-Hales Livestock Commission Company. At the time of his retirement, he was co-owner of the Fort Smith Stockyards.

Floyd was preceded in death by his son, Gary Don Barringer; his parents, James and Etta Barringer; his brothers, Earl, William and J.D. Barringer and his sisters, Jewel Southern, Cornelia Kaiser and Doris Freeman.

Floyd is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marjorie Barringer; his daughter, Diane Wilson of Covington, Louisiana; his grandson, Christopher Wilson of Covington, Louisiana; his sister, Imogene Wilson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and his sisters-in-law, Claudine Barringer of McAlester, Oklahoma and Wanda Barringer of Knoxville, Tennessee. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Floyd will be deeply missed by friends and family.

Funeral services will be at 1:00pm Monday, September 19, 2016 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park with Navy Honors. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
